Childcare funding

Hey 👋🏻 I’m a bit confused about the childcare funding situation - I heard from the nursery that my LO is going to in the autumn saying that he wouldn’t be eligible for the childcare funding in September as he won’t be 9 months before the 31st of August (so frustrating, he’s 4 days too young) but that he can get the funding in January 2025 but when I look up online when to apply for the January term I can’t find anything. I can find when the applications open for the September funding but nothing about when you can apply for January - does anyone know? Also is anyone else in the same boat and feeling frustrated 😩

Sorryyyyyy about that. They wont be taking applications for now for that term Just keep checking

@Kady okay good to know, I’ll keep an eye out. Thank you! Honestly I feel so frustrated about it but it is what it is I guess

I can imagineeeeee

2nd of Dec here so feel your frustration. Just remember that it’s way worse for people with that miss the threshold of 31st March birthdays and land in April instead - they have to wait until 1st Sept to be eligible for their funding.

@Marie oh god yeah true.. plus all the parents with older babies who didn’t have the funding until their kids were older :(

@Lucy I have a 2.5 year old as well. But he’s at least got the 2 year 15 hours now when I didn’t expect him to have anything until the 30 hours in January (September baby, another poor birthday choice funding wise).

Oh gosh I didn’t realise you have to apply to get this funding, just thought the nursery automatically does it 🙈 my LO is going nursery in Dec and she will be 1yrs old. How do you apply??

@Tanya this is where I found the most info about how to apply :) https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-childcare-if-youre-working

Really confused by all of this funding also! So our December baby’s won’t get any funding until January?!🙈 And the government page says you can apply from when your child is 1 year and 36 weeks for 15 hours free childcare So our December one year olds still won’t get this? Confused!

@Rosie that’s for the 2 year funding. The new 9 month old funding is only being rolled out now so the info isn’t all there. But no, December babies aren’t eligible until January as the baby has to have been 9 months before the start of the term (so 31st Aug for Sept-Dec funding, 31st Dec for Jan-March term).

@Marie ahh okie dokie thank you!!! X

12th May applications open for the 9 month funding but guessing it will still have the same restrictions in terms of starting

My LG was born 1st Dec so really annoying we have to wait 4 months because she missed the deadline by 1 day 🥲

@Katie so frustrating 😩😩

I feel it my baby need to wait too

Does anyone know when you should apply for the funding my baby was born on December 2nd x

@Anj I double checked with our nursery about that and they said we should be able to apply for funding 3 months beforehand for January start - so October - but she said the latest you can apply for January is 31st of December x

@Lucy thank you x

@Anj np 👍🏻 x
