Baby boy question

My second baby is going to be a boy, I had a girl first. She always wore bows so we never really put hats on her. I noticed we're getting a lot of gifts that are outfits with little hats. Does anyone know if it's against safe sleep for a baby to sleep with a hat on? Or is it kinda just to take a picture and then take off?

We always took our sons off for him to sleep, in case it fell off and went over his face. We rarely used the hats at all honestly. If it was chilly we did but they just fell off all the time. As long as your house is warm enough, you should be okay without.

It would be to take photos and take off, or wear out and about! Hats aren’t safe for sleeping because it doesn’t allow baby to regulate their temperature.

You mean the hats they give at the hospital to keep them warm? Or with sleep sets? Those are completely fine

@Christy the ones that come with pajama sets

Thank you everyone for sharing!

Same thing as bows - they shouldn’t sleep with hats or bows, and they need to come off in car seats. You can have them wear them when they’re older, like 1 for winter and stuff.

@Jennifer and, common sense, can be a suffocation hazard. As can bows

We used hats when we went out a lot in the fall/winter! But don’t let baby sleep in a hat as it isn’t good for temperature regulation

Both my boys slept with hats on the first few months but they were also swaddled and laid on their backs. The first was born in the summer my second was born in the winter. As far as temperature regulation I will say it may be best to do without. The nurses always kept a hat on them at the hospital never said anything about removing it but you can always ask your OB at your next appointment if you’re really concerned

I only used bats when we left tye house in the house no

If it’s loose take it off if it’s a secure hat you should find. My midwife told me unless there’s a draft or cold inside you don’t really need a hat on baby if you don’t want to

The nurses made it clear to me that hats were against safe sleep unless supervised. 🤷 They gave my boy one and he slept in it when he was with someone, but that was it. Tbh the outfit ones don't stay on well anyway.
