I am also allergic to penicillin and any related antibiotics. I tested positive for group b strep and they are giving me the antibiotics through the IV. My doctor did say that it's not to huge of an ordeal because if I don't get the antibiotics they will just keep the baby for an extra day to monitor. I am not sure about the way you're hospital is going about it but I would much rather them give me the antibiotics than my new born. I would suggest going and getting tested at a separate facility and possibly asking you're doctor if they could give you the antibiotics instead through the IV if you test positive. You're say trumps hospital protocol.
My ob office did the test and he works in the hospital that I am getting induced and giving birth at
Well the medical building that's attached to the hospital
My test came back negative and I am glad because they would have had to give me an antibiotic at delivery time if it come back positive
Also what helps me when I need to know certain things is to watch YouTube videos about it
I got it done. I’m being induced also like halie also came back negative.
@Lauren I am glad mine did because I was starting to get anxiety about it
Personally for myself I would be wary of giving my baby penicillin or amoxicillin but that's because I am allergic to both. I feel like if you or your child's father aren't allergic to them then it shouldn't be a problem. I don't know if allergies get passed down from one generation to another but that's the only reason I would be on the fence about it. Edit: I tested negative but had this planned out in case I was positive
