IUD Birth Control

I just had my baby May 4th and I already told my OBGYN that I wanted the IUD for birth control so I’m trying to prepare myself for it. Some say it’s painful, some say it’s a little pinch but I’m trying to prepare just in case. What can I do to help me either prepare for the pain or cope with it after getting it inserted?

I need to know too!! I had my baby March 24 and my 6 week follow up is tomorrow and I’m supposed to be getting the IUD 😭

I have my baby May 6th last year. I got the iud in August cause I needed time to heal first. And honestly it felt worse than child birth at the time. The cramping was really bad. It was my first time tho with a hormonal IUD

In my opinion it is HIGHLY uncomfortable to insert, then a flash of pain right as it goes in. I was grumpy for the rest of the day and then fine. I did have cramping for the first couple weeks which sucked but then the next 3 years were golden

it was mainly pressure once it was inserted and then a pinch once complete. I had cramping and pressure for about 1-2 hours and then was fine.

Take ibuprofen right before it’s just achy feeling. Not a bad pain.

I have the Paraguard and the Mirena and both felt like a pinch when inserted after it was only sore for like a day or to but that’s about it

I didn't feel any pain while it was inserted. I think I was 6 weeks around there postpartum. I gave birth last year on May 1st. He said bc my cervix still hadn't fully closed it was easy and less painful. I'm sure when I take it out it'll hurt more. But at least the insertion was fine. The first period though. I wanted to cry. Horrible cramps and fever. I was perfectly fine after that.

I’ve heard it is much more bearable after having a kid!

i got an iud before birth, all i took was a standard dose of ibuprofen and i didnt feel anything. my friend just got her first one post birth and she said it was not painful and all she took was Tylenol. so i just suggest taking some pain relief beforehand. you will have cramping afterwards like if you had your period. i think method of how it is placed really matters. when i got mine placed they didn’t need any tools except the speculum.

I had it for 3 years before and personally I don’t recommend. I’ve gained a lot of weight and my partner felt the strings while we would have sex but definitely some painkillers and maybe a heating pad. I was super crampy afterwards and bled a bit, it hurt getting it done but wasn’t absolutely horrible.

@Tiffany your strings probably were just long, you can always get them cut shorter. i had an iud for 6 years and only the first time i had sex were they felt, at my follow up i just let my dr know and they cut them shorter, the strings also get softer and more malleable with time. i also had multiple partners during that period of time and no one ever said anything and i even asked cause i was curious especially with more well endowed men. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@mj oh wow I had no idea I could have got them cut shorter

I HATED my IUD. It hurt, made periods irregular, and it was just so not fun. Had it for the full 5 years mine was allowed. It was awful. Will NEVER recommend
