Isofix car seat attachment

Has anyone bought an isofix attachment? Do you find it more convenient/safer than the usual belted in car seats? Is it something you can attach any car seat to or is it only compatible with a few? Are there also different brands that offer an isofix? I’m planning on buying a complete travel system and wondering if I’d need to base this off a car seat attachment that is compatible with an isofix or has one within the brand I choose… Hope I’m making sense 😵‍💫

Each car seat will have its own compatible isofix. Most of them are brand specific. We do a bit of both with the base and seatbelt. We keep the base in the main car and belt it into the one we use less often Some car seats can’t be belted in and need an isofix so make sure you check when buying

You need the specific base to your chosen seat. Be careful with the travel system as many brands are only tested to minimal safety standards. It's not safer but easier than using seatbelt everytime.

Has your car got isofix? As said above, each manufacturer will have its own Bases to match their own seats - you can't mix and match. Often the base and seat are sold separately which I think is madness and there are seats that have the base built in (2 types now - one like the Joie ispin safe which means the seat can't be removed from the base or put on a travel system, and one like the Doona or Nuna Pipa urban that hasn't really got a base just bits that pull out to fix to the isofix in the car and can be put on a compatible travel system). Some buggies you can get adapters so a different brand of car seat can fit on the frame. You can use belted or isofix if your car has isofix points.

Have a look on bababing! Im buying my car seat and it will come with the isofix but they sell the isofix seperately as well. i seen it can work on some other brands. Also your car needs to have an isofix clips! There at the back seat and the base clicks on.

Isofix doesn't really make it safer than seat belt but eliminates user error. So if you use seat belt correctly, there is not need to spend on isofix which you'd probably haveto buy separately for different seats and that gets expensive.

I wanted isofix for ease so got it (britax babysafe core is the one we went for as it was the most highly safety tested one i liked that i could easily get in the uk and the only one i could find in a bundle of seat n base without buying separately 🤣) some fit the next up seats too but only from that brand its not a case of one isofix works for all I do think it’s worth it for speed of putting her in as we leave base in then just click seat in on top but not necessary nor any safer than correctly being belted in it does remove the stress of belting them in when your unsure at first tho. Ours was only £260ish for both seat and base but a lot are that for the base alone, look into safety testing, adac score n swedish plus testing n make a decision on seat based on that as thats safest. We ended up getting our travel system in the bundle option without seat and just buying our own seat as theyre often not tested to a high standard nor offer a good fit

My car does have the isofix points, I’m just finding it all so confusing because I’ve seen some people use different brands for car seats and isofix 😵‍💫 I was looking at ickle bubba and maxi cosi zeila travel systems but now having to relook at my options to base it on whether it has a compatible and safe isofix (I’d prefer a travel system instead of buying just the isofix and car seat as I’ll have the multiple attachments for baby as she grows)

@Kay most travel systems will have a comparable isofix but will sell them separately We have a joie chrome travel system that came with a joie gemm car seat. The isofix wasnt included but it was easy enough to get the right one. The manufacturer website or instruction booklet generally tells you exactly which bases it will be comparable with

@Kay ickle bubba carseats aren't the safest or provide best fit (put babies chin to chest) so best to get a bundle without carseat and buy carseat separately. The ickle bubna solar have been recalled recently due to safety concerns.

Are there any car seats that attach to both the isofix and the wheel base on the travel system? I’m having a browse and most offer two different attachments meaning two car seats which I’m trying to avoid 😩

@Thao I wasn’t aware of this thank you for letting me know, will look this up! X

@Kay we had the oyster 3 with the maxi cosi cabriofix car seat, used the isofix (which we found really handy to put baby in and out of car when little and sleeping a lot) and it came with adaptors to fit the pram so really easy going between car and pram/travel system for quick trips out not having to disturb baby x

@Kay almost all car seats that attach to a pram also attach to isofix. The attachments refer to the clips you have to add onto the pram frame (which are usually included if buying a travel system) and the isofix base which is bought separately

@Kay I think it's more important to get a car seat you feel is safe than one that connects to the pram chassis. I decided not to get one that is compatible with the pram so as not to have the temptation or run the risk of having the baby in the car seat for too long.

@Kay we bought cybex seat and pushchair. One base and one set of adapters. You won't need 2 seats you can get the adapters to make it fit.

1000% easier with isofix. If I was buying new car seats, if poss I'd never buy a non isofix again. We have a spare that's non isofix but that's for my husbands van for my son but even his bigger isofix seat that turns into just a booster, I've got an isofix. I'd always go with maxi cosi or joie though Xx

I have the icandy peach with the britax baby safe core isize, it doesn’t state anywhere it fits as they have a list of ones that do but it does and i dont even need aeapters for it haha so youll find its a guessing game unless listed if you know what travel system you want im happy to help find the list of suitable ones thatll connect

You wont need two car seats btw just different attachments if needed
