Car seats

Hiya just looking for some car seat advice, my little one is only 9 weeks old so we have some time yet but we only have the newborn car seat so I was just wondering does anyone have any recommendations for car seats that fit up to at least 4years old but that will fit into a small car? I don’t want a spin seat that’s all I know

Avionaut Sky is a good seat for small cars 😊 But definitely no rush, my baby turns one next weekend and he’s still in his newborn car seat. Depending on which one you have they can have quite high weight and height limits so can last a while as long as you check the manual for how to adjust the straps and when to remove the newborn inserts

We have a Britax safe way M which doesn’t spin, it’s tethered in. Highly recommend waiting until you know what centile lines your little one is on. Ours started on 25th and now is on 91st so we got her an ERF up to 36kg to last x

@Sophie I love that it’s pricey but it looks really good 😊

Definitely try to for a Swedish plus tested ERF seat they’re so much better. Out of curiosity what car do you drive? We got an Axkid minikid2 and love it but drive a Vauxhall Corsa atm and it leaves almost no space for the front passenger

@Danielle yes, it’s a really good seat. There’s a cheaper version called the Sky Q if baby is big enough to go without the inserts when they move into it, that’s what we’re going to go for now that baby is a bit older. I think we’ll get around 4 or 5 years use out of it and when you divide the price over that period of time it doesn’t seem so expensive, for one of the safest seats that there is 😊

Highly recommend checking in car safety centre, they can recommend a seat based on your needs. We love our axkid mini kid, but have a Renault captur and my husband just fits in the passenger seat, he’s 6ft 1

@Jess I drive a Suzuki swift so definitely small, tbh we rarely take passengers anyway lol 😂

I got a BeSafe car seat, I think the model is called Twist B. It goes up to 4 years, one of the safest out there, seems comfy and it was the only one that properly fit my car. Unfortunately not cheap. My recommendation would be to go to a shop where they can advise you properly based on your car and your personal needs. Initially I was going to buy online but I ended up going to a store that someone recommended. The guy installed several ones to see how they fit and they even measured the sitting angle for the baby, which changes depending on the inclination of your car back seats, but has to be within a specific range for newborns. I spent a bit more but it was the best decision

@Marta I’m not sure where abouts your from but unfortunately in the uk there’s not a lot of baby shops around :( x

A spinning seat is a lifesaver, particularly when they get to the awkward toddler stage of refusing to get in!

@Danielle there are quite a few independent car seat retailers dotted around the country who would be able to advise you - whereabouts are you based?

@Sophie I’m in Surrey, near Heathrow

@Danielle hmm, yeah, think you are a bit of a black hole for shops there, but you could see whether you’re in the catchment area for a home visit from Rear Facing Toddlers https://www.rearfacingtoddlers.com/pages/child-car-seat-advice-checking-and-fitting-service
